Do you have a pair of pants that are RUINED at the bottoms, or that are too long? I did...
These are my American Apparel Four-Way Stretch High-Waist Zipper Pant in Jet Black (wow that was a mouthful).
Two things about these pants: They are two long, and I always had to cuff them which made the zippers kind of useless (nonetheless I love these pants and have them in two other colours...). Anyway, over-time from my constant folding of the bottoms, the zipper just busted (the ankles fit EXTREMELY snug)...so...*sad face*. I decided I should just cut off the zipper bottoms and turn them into cropped pants...
Turn your pants inside out and draw a guide-line with some Tailor's Chalk (or just wing it if you're feeling kind of bad@**). After you've cut off the ends as neatly as possible (save them!!), fold the pants vertically in half and then cuff the ends evenly at the desired length. If you fold them in half like this first, you'll make sure that each pant leg will end up being the same length! Then, use your amazing sewing skills and stitch those babies up!
Voila! Your new cropped pants are complete!
You can just stop here if you're feeling kind of boring/lazy (this statement is not intended to offend anyone...just saying'...)
But, I wanted to use those end-scraps...so I decided a cute bow on the back of each ankle would look perfectly dandy!
Cut two squares of fabric out of your scraps (you don't HAVE to use the scraps from the pants you just cut, you could use any fabric! Lace, floral, velvet--GO CRAZY!).
Fold in the sides of each piece of fabric and pin them. Place each square on top of each other to make sure they are the same! You want your bows to end up being the same length =).
You'll need your amazing sewing skills again to stitch that stuff up.
Then, inside out, fold the square in half. Secure it with a pin and stitch that baby up, too!
When thats done, turn your "tube" right side out! Then fold it in half like the picture shows =). Pin the sides down to keep it flat and stitch the sides shut!
Now here is the fun part!
Pinch the centre of each rectangle to get your desired bow shape. I use a bobby pin to secure them so that they are easier to sew =).
Once thats done, cut a piece of the seam of the pant from those end scraps that is long enough to wrap around the centre of the bow. Sew it on and...
Voila! Your beautiful DIY bow is done!
You can use this bow for anything...bowtie, hair pin, or...
To stitch to the ankles of your new cropped pants! If you don't want to make the commitment to stitching these babies on forever, you can always just use safety pins (that's what I did...bow-committment issues, I know..).
My completed pants! High-waisted cropped pants with ankle-bows! How adorable! I will do an outfit post with these soon!
