The Hair Cut

Back in December I got a haircut.  A horrendous haircut.  Before then, my hair was long.  Super-DUPER long.  Longer than in the above photos as these were taken last summer.  It had been about 2 years since my last haircut, which obviously meant I was WAY overdue for a 'pro grooming'.  Before I go further, I must mention two things:  1. I prefer long hair because it's easy to just...'throw over your shoulder and go', and 2. I HATE haircuts, which explains my 2 year absence from a salon.  Maybe it's just me, but I'm not too fond of the idea of spending money on someone cutting my hair because I know I'll hate it when I walk out.  Needless to say, this happened:
I'd been meaning to do a post about this horrendous haircut for quite some time, but I just never got around to it.  Maybe it was out of embarrassment because, well, look at me.  I got layers.  SHORT layers.  Did I ask for layers?  Well, yes, so what if I did.  But I asked for looong layers.  You know, the sexy kind?  Instead, I got short layers..and some borderline BANGS.  UGH.  There is NOTHING worse than getting bangs when you didn't even ask for them.
Having not been used to having short hair -- let alone short bangs -- I had no idea WHAT to do with my hair without looking like a news reporter.  See the annoying 'flippy-ness' going on due to the bangs?  Sucks.

Luckily, after weeks of trying to grow it out, I came to terms with the fact that I would have to put SOME effort into 'doing' my hair.  Here are three of my favourite 'dos.

Hairstyle #1 has always been one of my faves, even while my hair was long.  A simple side pony, with my annoying layers securely pinned down to the side opposite of the pony. Total time required?  About a minute.

Hairstyle #2 is something new to me.  Shortly after the disastrous haircut, I knew I needed SOMETHING.  So I invested in a flatiron.  This takes me about 10minutes to do:  I simply wave each strand with an up-down-up-down motion.  Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy!

Hairstyle #3 is a no-brainer: the messy bun.  In my case, the messy bun is actually messy since my layers are just BEGGING to fall out from every side possible.  Bobby pins ladies.  Bobby pins.

Anyway, with the weather warming up quickly, I've been pining for some lighter locks.  Whuddy'all think?  Honestly, I want to go grey.  Yes.  I want to dye my hair grey, but is this even possible??  I know it'll be a process to get my hair light without frying to a crisp.  Hmph.  I'm just going to let that marinate in your thoughts (or in mine).  I'll leave y'all with this collage of doctored photos using using the InStyle Hairstyler app!  Hah!

Have A Good Weekend Everyone!

  1. If it's any consolation, your hair looks lovely now lol. I've been wanting to cut my hair for a while now but I'm so scared...

  2. Salons are so scary haha. The only way you get a good haircut is when you learn and do it yourself! :'D I've been wanting a cut but I'm afraid layers are going to all wild. Long hair is usually awesome and low maintenance.. nearly makes you forget completely on how to take care of shorter cuts.

I do love the hairstyles you've come up with!
    AND YES FOR GREY!!!

  3. I feel your pain. I hate haircuts so much. I mean, if you're sitting in the chair and you feel like they're screwing it up, it's not like you can REALLY stop them in the middle of it. I'm glad you're happy with your new haircut. Your layered one was...unfortunate. Haha

    Sincerely,
    Sabrina
