3.1 Phillip Lim for Target in Toronto

Image via Google Images
Have you ever experienced the feeling of pure nonchalance along with a side of utter bafflement at the behaviour of hysteric shoppers?  Let.  Me.  Tell.  You.  (Warning: terrible quality iPhone4 photos ahead...for this...I kind-of...sort-of...apologizie...)

I've never experienced the crazy release of a designer x affordable fashion line.  All of the previous H&M crazes?  I was never there.  Target only recently opened it's doors in Canada, and this was our first taste at a designer x Target collab.  My sister and I had both seen the collection online, but didn't fall in love with anything.  Either way, we thought it would be fun to check it out.

We arrived at the Overlea location at about 7:30am (Target's doors open at 8), and there was a line that was already wrapped around the side of the building.  About 10minutes before opening their doors, a Target employee came out to announce where the products were located, and advised that the shoppers please be civil and fair when selecting products.  Foolishly, this particular location decided to allow the ENTIRE LINE OF SHOPPERS into the store at once.  Fools.

As expected from a crowd of fashion-hungry Torontonians:  There was running; there was pushing; there was grabbing.  By 8:05a.m. clothing racks were empty.

For some reason, the store had yet to set up their display of the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target handbags.  The crowd gathered around the fitting rooms as the employees started to dole them out to grabbing hands.  It was a zoo, people.  A ZOO.

There were girls greedily running around with 8 handbags on their arms, while others looked completely defeated.  To make matters worse, there were full-grown men getting in on the frenzy and hoarding little handbags.  Excuse my sick and twisted humour, but I got a huge kick outta this, haha!  The handbags looked nice, but I really couldn't believe the craze around them because they weren't even real leather (side note:  I've recently commited to stop purchasing cheap plasticy handbags...though I do admit, the micro trapeze "pashli' crossbodies were really frickin cute).

My sister and I systematically split up: she to mens, and I to womens.  She told me about a lady who got their first and shamelessly took an arm full of men's bags and left.  Shortly after this, word circulated around the store that checkout was only allowing for each customer to leave with TWO handbags HAHAHA.  Omg.  Really, Target?  They should have been more prepared.

The only tiny space designated for the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target womenswear collection at the Overlea Blvd location.  No 3.1 Phillip Lim signage in sight was a bit of a disappointment.  Also: the crowd.

We scaled ourselves back and calmly perused the store, seeing what others had managed to pick up.  As we were casually browsing what was left of the menswear, we found some abandoned Grab and Go sleep sets (spoiler alert: this was the only thing I bought from the collection haha).

  1. K, that is like total madness... From the photos above, it looks like it was like boxing day but 10 times worse :| I can also imagine the women all diving in at the same time...But i'm glad you picked something though!!! :D

I totally underestimated this whole phillip lim and target thing. So my Target opens at 8 as well and I was thinking...meh.. 8:05am.. should be early enough. Got there and all the bags were gone! The clothing was there but it didn't have anything that I really wanted so I left empty handed. Just check out craigslist right now, there are tons of people selling those bags and tops for more than tripled the price!! It's like girl, don't tell me you "lost" your receipt in 3 hours.... grrrr people hogging the bags!

Sameee, I've started to opt out of the cheap-ish bags because.. they don't last... so I rather buy one nice one than a few of the cheaper ones!

Anyways!!! enjoyed reading this post and that video!!! haha

    1. Oh no!! I know, it's RIDICULOUS how much people are selling the items for. They're definitely not worth the resell price at all! But whateves, no more cheap-ish bags! I feel like the older I get, I start to actually think about the items I buy as investment pieces. In the long run, a true leather piece will last longer than something cheaply made.

Glad you enjoyed my post! :)

  2. These pictures are hilarious! Love that you captured a video too haha. I must live around people who could care less about Philip Lim because I didn't go to my Target until almost 2:00 and they still had TONS of stuff! However the 1 thing I wanted (a yellow cross body bag) was all sold out. They had every color left except yellow :(. Also LOVE those PJS. I didn't see those anywhere!
